Background of the organization:
Climate Action Network Canada – Réseau action climat Canada (CAN-Rac Canada) is a coalition of more than 100 organizations across the country that advances practical policies and front-line solutions to manage Canada’s carbon pollution and address the front-line impacts of climate change, through sustainable development that leaves no one behind.
CAN-Rac Canada brings labour, development, faith-based, and Indigenous groups together with the key national, provincial, and territorial environmental organizations working on climate change. The network plays a critical role in helping Canadian organizations understand and respond to climate change impacts and policies, across Canada and around the world, to coordinate efforts for greatest impact.
Grant Description:
CAN-Rac will use funds from this grant to grow and engage its membership in developing Just Transition planning across strategic economic and societal sectors. Just Transition plans are climate projects to reduce GHG emissions that put the health and wellbeing of people first and foremost, ensure protection for workers and their families, uphold and promote Indigenous rights, while building resilience and cooperation across sectors. With this grant, CAN-Rac will hire an Indigenous climate policy analyst; hire external advisors on issues such as public relations strategy and diversity leadership training; host Just Transition events in communities across the country in partnership with Climate Caucus, and invest in improved digital infrastructure to more effectively engage its network. CAN-Rac has begun to work on a just and green post-COVID economic recovery strategy.
