Indigenous Climate Action

Background of the organization

Indigenous Climate Action (ICA) is an Indigenous-led organization guided by a diverse group of Indigenous knowledge keepers, water protectors and land defenders from communities and regions across the country. The organization believes that Indigenous Peoples’ rights and knowledge systems are critical to developing solutions to the climate crisis and achieving climate justice.

Project description

Funding will contribute to ICA’s five pathways to grow the Indigenous climate movement. This includes storytelling and amplifying Indigenous climate stories, relationship building, ceremony and on the land trainings with Elders and youth, providing trauma informed trainings and supports, financial and wellness supports for Indigenous youth and climate justice education and training. ICA scholars provide training and recommendations to non-Indigenous organizations on decolonizing their climate policy work. Funding will also contribute for ICA to establish organizational best practices and fund Indigenous communities’ climate projects.
