Background of the organization
Since 1980, Giant Steps has stood at the forefront of autism and education for 40 years. Their intensive educational and therapeutic program, offered in both French and English to 90 students aged 4-21, is unique in Quebec, and has been replicated worldwide.
Giant Steps is dedicated to the development of autonomy in each student: they use a unique multi-disciplinary approach that is highly individualized to meet each student’s particular needs. The School provides support allowing inclusion within mainstream schools affiliated with the various school boards, a process that reinforces functional autonomy in the child as they age.
The Giant Steps Foundation received capital campaign support through the Foundation’s Montreal funding streams. McConnell funding will be used to create a new Autism Centre in the Montreal Rosemont neighbourhood’s Quartier Angus, that will serve as a hub for education, resources, research, and services to individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) at all stages of their lives.
