Disability Without Poverty

Background of the organization

A National disability-led organization, Disability Without Poverty (DWP) was created when advocates across the country came together to work on eliminating disability poverty. Their work was immediately focused on the Canada Disability Benefit (CDB) introduced in the 2020 Throne Speech as part of the government’s Disability Inclusion Action Plan. Today, they continue pushing governments for a benefit that is adequate and accessible to all who need it and addressing the five structural forces that drive disability poverty.

Project description

Funding will support DWP through a final transition period to shift from securing further federal disability income reforms toward ensuring that recently won public benefits are effectively implemented. They will monitor the rollout of the Canada Disability Benefit and Disability Tax Credit reforms, train people with disabilities to engage in policy processes, and use annual Disability Poverty Report Cards to identify implementation barriers and advocate for improvements.
