Background of the organization

Victim Services Toronto (VST) provides immediate, trauma-informed support and advocacy for any person in Toronto impacted by crime or sudden tragedy, while advancing safety through community engagement, education, and advocacy. Through RECLAIM, VST leads Canada’s only initiative addressing coerced and fraudulent debt linked to human trafficking — working with survivors, financial institutions, credit bureaus, and policymakers to remove this debt and advance policy change.

Project description

Funding will support RECLAIM’s three-year national advocacy initiative, engaging policymakers, regulators, and financial institutions to advance reforms that remove coerced debt and strengthen financial protections for survivors of human trafficking. VST will organize 4 to 6 regional convenings, delivered in collaboration with Agency Champions in target provinces, to unite experts and civil society to co-develop policy recommendations.
