Background of the organization
Established in 1997, the Toronto Public Library Foundation is a separate charitable organization that supports the Toronto Public Library’s vision by investing in programs and resources that help people who walk through library doors become more resilient, knowledgeable, connected, and successful. They believe that equal access to information, resources and opportunities improves the quality of life for every resident in the city, and they want to strengthen the confidence and ability of Torontonians to participate in democratic life by actively practicing democratic values, skills and capabilities.
Project description
Funding will support Know Your Vote TO and Democracy Fitness, two programs that help people learn about democracy and take part in it in practical, hands‑on ways. In years two and three, it will also support community consultations as well as convenings which will bring funders and democracy practitioners together to align priorities and reinforce the trust and systems that underpin democratic life.
