Toronto Community Benefits Network

Background of the organization

Founded in 2014, the Toronto Community Benefits Network (TCBN) brings together community, labour and workforce development partners to advance equitable access to good jobs. With a strong track record of securing construction employment and community benefits for equity‑deserving groups, TCBN manages an annual budget of $1.8 million. It has eight years of experience mentoring and upskilling workers in the green building sector and supporting communities across Ontario and Nova Scotia.

Project description

Funding will help support the NexGen Green Builders–Workforce Development (NGB-WD) Initiative, a transformative workforce development program designed to address systemic barriers that limit access to careers in green building and clean technology for equity-deserving communities. Led by the Toronto Community Benefits Network (TCBN), the initiative focuses on expanding opportunities for Black, Indigenous, racialized individuals, women, newcomers, and youth who have historically been excluded from skilled trades and sustainable construction sectors. The program applies an equity-centered approach that integrates inclusive training, mentorship, and employer engagement to create accessible and culturally responsive pathways to employment. Participants receive technical training in construction readiness, green building, and sustainability while also benefiting from leadership development, professional networking, and wraparound support that promote long-term career success.
