L’Institut du Nouveau Monde

Created in 2003, L’Institut du Nouveau Monde is a non-partisan institute devoted to “renewing ideas and enlivening public debate.” It seeks to foster the emergence of innovative solutions to problems in Quebec society today, from a perspective of social justice, respect for democratic values, and a spirit of openness and innovation.

In 2004, INM launched its summer school, a four-day session of seminars, debates, conferences and other activities aimed at stimulating social and civic engagement among young people aged 15-30 who attend from across Quebec.

Full Description

This grant contributed to the INM’s Developing Active Citizens program, which supported young social entrepreneurs who wanted to engage in addressing social issues.

Following participation in the INM’s summer school, many young people choose to move from theory to practice by starting up innovative projects in their communities. The Developing Active Citizens program offered interested participants an opportunity to join a project team, which received a subsidy and Internet space to describe and report on the development of their project. The INMalso offered regional and national coordination and networking support to the project teams.
