Kenhtè:ke Seed Sanctuary and Learning Centre

Background of the organization

The Kenhtè:ke Seed Sanctuary and Learning Centre (KSSLC) was established in 2018 as a non-profit Indigenous-led initiative dedicated to growing Indigenous and heirloom seeds and ensuring the availability of healthy, local seeds for the next seven generations. It has built a community space where language, ceremony, land-based learning, and Haudenosaunee knowledge can be practised collectively.

Project description

Funding will support intergenerational cultural revitalization through the Kenhtè:ke Seed Sanctuary as a living learning environment, using seed rematriation and land-based learning for language and culture transmission. Elders and Knowledge Keepers will work with youth and families to transmit Kanien’kéha language, ceremony, traditional teaching, and relationships to land, while strengthening connections with other Haudenosaunee communities engaged in similar cultural renewal work.
