Institut F

Background of the organization

Founded in 2017, Institut F’s vision is a world where Muslim women are thriving and contribute positively, with recognition, to the advance community knowledge and development of their communities. The organization’s mission is to contribute to the wellbeing and thriving of its members from diverse backgrounds for greater social harmony in Québec.

Project description

Funding will support intercultural mediation with feminist groups and Muslim women, co-facilitated by L’Institut F, l’R des Centres de femmes du Québec (l’R) and la Table des groupes de femmes de Montréal (TGFM). The project aims to uncover both (a) the issues experienced by Muslim women when accessing women’s services and, (b) the challenges employees at those services encounter when trying to serve Muslim women. The project will equip stakeholders working in women’s services with knowledge on the realities of racism, plural realities, and the challenges of Muslim women. It also aims to foster collective reflections on how adapt attitudes and practices within women’s services to make them more culturally adapted to Muslim women.
