IndigiNews

Background of the organization

IndigiNews is an independent local news outlet covering the Okanagan Valley and Vancouver Island in British Columbia. Their focus is strength-based storytelling led by and about Indigenous people and communities. 

Created through a partnership between Aboriginal Peoples Television Network (APTN) and The Discourse, IndigiNews provides journalism driven by Indigenous voices and that contributes to the sustainability of independent Indigenous news in Canada. 

Project description

McConnell funding will support IndigiNews to double their editorial output and grow a stable and well-resourced team. It will also help scale their “Decolonize the Media” trainings and develop a mentorship program offering skills training and cultural support to Indigenous journalists.
