Background of the organization
Founded in 1992 by activists committed to human rights, the HIV Legal Network has become one of the world’s leading organizations addressing legal and human rights issues related to HIV. It defends the rights of people living with HIV and communities particularly affected by HIV through research, community partnerships, strategic litigation, and policy advocacy. Its expertise is widely relied upon by media, governments, and civil society.
Project description
Funding will support national and provincial advocacy to advance health, access to harm reduction, and legal protections for people who use drugs. The project focuses on reducing restrictions on supervised consumption sites, repealing harmful municipal legislation, improving needle and syringe access, expanding prison harm reduction services, and strengthening public understanding of harm reduction’s purpose. Funding covers legal analysis, policy work, communications, and staff time alongside collaboration with partners and people with lived experience.
