BizforClimate

Background of the organization

Based in Manitoba, BizforClimate is a non-partisan network and coalition of businesses working to address climate risks and challenges, promote solutions, and facilitate the transition to a low-emissions economy. Approaching the issue from a public policy perspective, they empower businesses to be climate leaders, influencers, and advocates, coordinate collective action, and work with the government to shape solutions.  BizforClimate started with an awareness campaign inviting companies to sign a Climate Action Pledge to raise awareness, demonstrate support, and encourage companies to take action. Over 260 companies have signed the pledge. The organization has now launched a paid business Membership Program to drive deeper engagement and impact. BizforClimate’s goal is to leverage the unique strengths, resources, and perspectives of their members to get better outcomes for the planet and the economy.

Project description

Funding will be used to pay core staff, build organizational capacity, and support delivery of the organization’s three-year operational plan, which includes growing the network to more than 300 paying members over the three years, and diversifying revenue to ensure the financial stability of the organization. BizforClimate will deliver a program of policy leadership and advocacy, organize activities such as sector-based business roundtables with research and data (including an Indigenous-led businesses roundtable), and create opportunities for businesses to advocate together to implement the Manitoba climate plan.
