Down The Marsh Community Land Trust

Background of the organization

Founded in 2022, Down The Marsh CLT is rooted in Truro, Nova Scotia—one of the province’s oldest African Nova Scotian settlements. Led by civil rights icon Dr. Lynn Jones, the CLT focuses on cultural preservation, land stewardship, and community regeneration for descendants of displaced Black Loyalists and refugees.

Project description

Funding will support the transfer of land from private to collective ownership, development of a community hub, and intergenerational gatherings. It will strengthen governance and capacity for long-term community rebuilding and sovereignty.
