Established in 1997, Keepers of the Circle is an Indigenous-led urban hub operated by the Temiskaming Native Women’s Support Group. As the Ontario representative of the Native Women’s Association of Canada (NWAC), the organization supports Indigenous women through cultural, social, and economic programs. With locations in Temiskaming Shores and Kirkland Lake, Keepers of the Circle works to advance Indigenous leadership and economic opportunities.
Project description
Funding will support the design of modular homes for a new Indigenous women-led construction facility in Northern Ontario. The project will enable the hiring of an Indigenous woman architect to develop culturally appropriate and climate-resilient housing designs in collaboration with Indigenous communities. These prefabricated homes will provide sustainable, affordable housing solutions while creating employment pathways for Indigenous women in the construction industry.
