Ecological Farmers of Ontario

Background of the organization

The Ecological Farmers Association of Ontario (EFAO) is a farmer-led nonprofit that supports ecological and equity-deserving farmers through training, mentorship, and policy work. EFAO is committed to addressing long-standing exclusions in agriculture policy, particularly for Indigenous, Black, immigrant, women, and 2SLGBTQ+ farmers.

Project description

Support will contribute to the development of a New Entrant Farmer Strategy in Ontario, focused on improving access to land and capital for marginalized farmers. EFAO will work with government and industry organizations to shape a provincial framework that reflects the needs of equity-deserving communities. The project also includes collaboration with other grassroots organizations and equity-deserving growers to co-develop collective recommendations and ensure the strategy is community-informed and farmer-led. The project aims to secure dedicated provincial investment in programs that expand access to land, capital, and knowledge for the next generation of Ontario farmers.
