Background of the organization

Founded in 2007, the Samara Centre for Democracy is Canada’s leading non-partisan organization focused on strengthening and protecting Canadian democracy. They produce ground-breaking research and dynamic events that advance a vibrant culture of civic engagement, helping people understand public issues, participate in civic life, and engage constructively with democratic institutions.

Project description

Funding will support the Samara Centre for Democracy in three connected areas: civic education content to help Canadians understand public issues, democracy, and opportunities to shape their communities; community convenings to help people think critically about how democratic institutions work and the role they can play in shaping them; and research to support policy solutions that strengthen Canada’s democratic institutions.
