Centre for Indigenous Environmental Resources

Background of the organization

The Centre for Indigenous Environmental Resources (CIER) is a national Indigenous-led charity with more than 30 years of experience supporting Indigenous communities (nearly half of all First Nations in Canada) to build localized expertise and give nations the tools to independently protect their lands, waters, and livelihoods.

Project description

Funding will support the CIER so they can expand their existing model to facilitate environmental-economic development. They will first bolster their capacity through staff training on Indigenous economics and establish an Environmental-Economic Reconciliation Strategy. They will also develop an online primer course for band employees while implementing a regional environmental-economic development pilot in the NWT from which they will continue to scale in person offerings.
