Background of the organization
The Islamic Family and Social Services Association (IFSSA) is an Edmonton-based, Muslim community-rooted charity whose mission is to uplift their community through culturally sensitive and compassionate care, ensuring every individual has access to safe spaces, support, and opportunities for holistic growth. They offer social services, settlement support, mental health programming, anti-racism initiatives, and housing support.
Project description
Funding will help IFSSA address public affordable housing barriers and reform public housing subsidy and financing options for Muslim communities. They will do so through policy research, financial modelling, coalition-building, and government engagement. IFSSA will also advocate for subsidies that better reflect household size and allow affordable housing projects to combine public grants with alternative financing, including equity-based or shared-risk structures.
