Council for the Advancement of Native Development Officers

Background of the organization

Founded in 1990, the Council for the Advancement of Native Development Officers (Cando) is a national Indigenous-led organization that partnered in 2013 with the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) to develop the Community Economic Development Initiative (CEDI), the only national program in Canada that supports the creation of First Nation–municipal partnerships for economic development. Cando is directed by a national regionally represented volunteer board of elected Economic Development Officers (EDO) representing every region of Canada.

Project description

Funding will help Cando develop and implement three realistic strategies over three years to scale CEDI’s programming sustainably and diversify its funding streams. This scaled program will allow First Nations and municipalities to build strong partnerships, attract investment, and create local jobs and economic opportunities.
