Future Generations Foundation

Background of the organization

Established in 1975 as a First Nations‑led charitable trust, the Future Generations Foundation was created to address priorities identified by First Nations and, following the 2007 Indian Residential School Settlement Agreement (IRSSA), to steward and distribute residual settlement funds for community benefit. The FG Foundation is the largest Indigenous‑led, non‑governmental funder of First Nations education, culture and healing initiatives across Canada.

Project description

Funding will support a culturally grounded impact measurement study examining over ten years of the FG Foundation’s grantmaking to First Nations Survivors, communities and organizations. An Indigenous external evaluator will support the MEL Specialist in community travel, data collection, analysis and knowledge mobilization. This work will strengthen the FG Foundation’s granting practices by developing a Theory of Change and meaningful community‑informed indicators to improve accountability and guide future funding decisions.
