Background of the organization
Create Climate Equity (CCE) is a nonprofit organization founded by Kambo Energy Group in 2020 committed to advancing just, equitable, and effective climate policies and programs. It runs the Empower Me program, a multilingual energy efficiency and literacy initiative designed for newcomers and immigrants. To date, over 14,000 immigrant households across British Columbia and Alberta have benefited from the program. In addition, CCE works closely with governments and utilities to advocate for policies that improve access to energy efficiency programs, ensuring these initiatives are culturally relevant and equitable for low-income and immigrant communities.
Project description
Funding will help further embed Empower Me in BC and Alberta and while also expanding into Ontario. Empower Me will hire multilingual Energy Mentors to provide personalized energy coaching and workshops to close to 900 new immigrant households. The program aims to help newcomers access energy efficiency programs and lower their energy costs, while supporting and partnering with 80 local organizations to support their clients in energy and climate literacy.
