The Northern Journalism Training Initiative

Background of the organization

The Northern Journalism Training Initiative (NJTI) provides journalism training opportunities to Indigenous and northern people. NJTI exists to amplify the voices of the North and prepare Indigenous and northern participants for futures engaging in media and communication, and to provide media training that genuinely represents Indigenous and northern perspectives.

Project description

Funding will help support the NJTI’s news broadcast training program for northern news outlets during which a dozen trainees will gain hands-on experience and receive mentorship. Building on the successful 2023 pilot, the Foundation’s support will fund activities in Hay River, including training programs, work placements, ongoing mentorship, and industry research.
