Supporting Wellbeing

Background of the organization

Supporting Wellbeing was founded in 2018 to address mental health challenges that often arise during land-based programming in Northern communities. The initiative was born out of a community-identified need, during a gathering of on the land programmers from across the Northwest Territories. The organization focuses on supporting cultural, language, and Land connections to improve the well-being of Indigenous peoples, with an emphasis on trauma-informed care and community healing.

Project description

Funding will enable Supporting Wellbeing to collaborate with Indigenous organizations in the Northwest Territories, Yukon, and Nunavut, providing trauma-informed facilitator training, suicide intervention, and conflict resolution tailored to the northern cultural context. They will also support regional networking and professional development gatherings to build capacity in mental health and land-based programming.
