National Youth in Care Network

Background

The National Youth In Care Network was created in 1985 by young people in care from across Canada who shared a common vision of making the child protection system more responsive to their needs. It is run by and for young people, aged 14-24, whose official parent is the state. This is a diverse group, from every socio-economic background, drawn together by the experience of growing up in the child protection system.

Expanding the reach of the National Youth In Care Network to improve the child welfare system. In order to strengthen its capacity to influence decision makers and to broaden the pool of people it can draw on as volunteers, advisors and supporters, National Youth In Care Network is preparing to involve some of the 1.2 million Canadians who have graduated from state care themselves.
