JIA Foundation

Background of the organization

JIA Foundation, formed in 2022, was born out of the Chinatown Working Group. It focuses on preserving and revitalizing Montreal’s Chinatown while preventing gentrification. The Foundation works closely with local residents, businesses, and the City of Montreal to advocate for inclusive urban planning and heritage conservation. Working with the City of Montreal’s Chinatown Action Plan, JIA fosters community empowerment and advocates for a Chinatown that serves the needs of all its communities.

Project description

Funding will help the JIA Foundation expand its community mobilization efforts and influence policy on housing, heritage, and revitalization issues. The project will also re-establish the Chinatown House program, which provides a physical space for community advocacy and culturally relevant programs. Through workshops, cultural activities, and public gatherings, JIA aims to empower community members to influence social housing plans and revitalization efforts in Chinatown.
