Ishkoday

Background of the organization

Founded in 2023, the First Nations Energy Sustainability Association (Oji-Cree name “Ishkoday”) was incubated within the Ontario Native Welfare Administrators Association (ONWAA) to address energy affordability challenges in First Nations communities. ONWAA, a First Nations-led nonprofit, supports social service administrators in 133 communities across Ontario. Ishkoday works closely with Efficiency Canada to improve energy efficiency awareness and access to funding programs.

Project description

Contributions will support Ishkoday in delivering in-community workshops to educate First Nations residents on energy efficiency, ventilation, and home sustainability. Participants will receive energy-efficient kits and assistance in navigating existing funding programs. The project aims to reach 14 communities in its first year, with plans to scale in future years.
