Background of Organization
Climate Caucus was established in 2019 by Rik Logtenberg, a Nelson B.C. councillor. The membership of the climate caucus has grown rapidly, counting more than 360 members in all provinces and territories, from small, rural local governments to big cities.
The Climate Caucus seeks to develop the necessary resources for individual local government officials, to adopt resolutions, new by-laws and other programs at the local level to reduce carbon pollution and make their community more resilient to climate change. Creating content with elected officials and civil society, the Climate Caucus helps to push for change at the municipal level, as well as lobby at the federal level when necessary.
The Foundation’s funding will be used to pay core staff to manage the central requirements of the Caucus and catalyze and grow the Working Groups, so that Climate Caucus can take a more structured approach to recruitment, retention and growth of members.
