Background
The Canadian Red Cross Society is a volunteer-based humanitarian organization founded in 1896 and incorporated in 1909. It helps people affected by emergencies and disasters ranging from a house fire to a flood that disrupts an entire region. Following a disaster, the Red Cross works with governments and other humanitarian organizations to provide for people’s basic needs.
In Quebec, the Red Cross is structured into 28 regions and 202 branches. Its humanitarian work is made possible by 200,000 volunteers and 130 staff members working hand in hand.
