Application Process
Making a choice among the many worthy proposals the Foundation receives is necessary but difficult; due to the nature of the applications submitted and limitations on our financial and human resources, the Foundation declines between 70 and 85 percent of requests received in any given year.
Some applications go through a more lengthy review process; this can last up to several months and involve considerable communication between the Foundation and the grant applicant.
Of these proposals, some of will be recommended to the Foundation’s Board of Trustees for approval. Should your proposal reach this stage, you will be informed, in writing, of the Board’s decision. If it has been approved, this letter will detail the grant’s amount, duration and terms. If declined, the letter will detail the key reasons for refusal.
Please note: the Foundation is not accepting any new grant applications at this time. Electronic application submission has been disabled.
Please have on hand your Canada Revenue Agency charitable number (your “business number” or BN), as well as general knowledge about your organization and the proposed project.
The complete application process consists of the following steps:
- Creating an account: As a first step, you must create an online account with the Foundation. This makes it possible for us to respond to your application by email and for you to save your application in draft form and finish it later.
- Eligibility test: Once you have created your account and signed into the application form, a series of questions will determine whether or not your organization and project are eligible to be considered for funding. If not, you will be advised immediately; otherwise, you will be directed to the application form.
- Application form: At this stage you will be able to save your work, returning to it at any time. The form is designed to save time by requesting only information necessary for an initial project evaluation. You will be contacted directly should more information be needed.
- What happens next: When you submit the application, you will receive an immediate acknowledgement and another by email within a few days. Your application will be carefully examined to determine whether additional details are needed. If so, you will receive instructions for preparing a more detailed proposal; if not, we will advise you that the file is being closed. Expect a reply within four to five weeks.
