Ian Bird named CEO of Community Foundations of Canada

The Foundation congratulates Ian Bird, leader of McConnell grantee Sport Matters Group and former Olympian, who will become Community Foundations of Canada (CFC)’s new CEO.

cfc logo“Ian has an impressive track record of engaging people in the discussions that matter, bringing them to consensus, and then rallying them around a cause to create lasting change,” said Faye Wightman, the Chair of CFC’s Board of Directors. “He’s a responsive, innovative and driven leader – a great fit for Canada’s community foundation movement.” (from CFC website)

Ian will succeed Monica Patten who has overseen CFC’s growth from 28 members in 1993 to 170 community foundations today.

John Cawley on ‘Owning the Podium’

During the last few years we heard a lot about how the Own the Podium program was going to give Canadian athletes the boost they needed to dominate the Winter Olympics with a record medal haul. True Sport Foundation announces grants for community sport programs

Foundation grantholder The True Sport Foundation is now accepting applications for the True Sport Community Fund. Grants ranging from $5,000 to a maximum of $50,000 are available in support of sport programs that create access, and promote inclusion for children and youth from Aboriginal, low-income, and new Canadian families.
